The Yangtze River Delta railway had completed sea-rail interoperability of over one million containers by the year 2026.
Journalists learned from China Railway Shanghai Group Limited Company that as of April 25th, a total of 1.006 million standard containers have been transported through sea-rail intermodal transportation in the Yangtze River Delta region in 2026, with a year-on-year increase of 11.3%. In recent years, the Shanghai Railway Group has actively promoted the construction of a modern railway logistics system, strengthened freight transportation capacity, optimized logistics product systems, improved hub transit efficiency, further developed efficient logistics networks, enhanced multimodal transportation service capabilities, and supported regional enterprises in reducing costs, improving efficiency, ensuring the stability and smooth operation of industrial and supply chains, and sustaining positive growth in foreign trade exports. Since 2026, four railway logistics centers including Taizhou West Railway Logistics Base and Yongjin Railway Xinchang North Station have been put into use. Seven new sea-rail intermodal train routes have been added, and 24 other sea-rail intermodal train routes have been optimized and adjusted. Chen Songdi, manager of the Multimodal Transport Department of the Logistics Department of the Shanghai Railway Group, stated that after the adjustment of the train schedule in the second quarter of 2026, the supply capacity of sea-rail intermodal transportation products in the Yangtze River Delta region has been further enhanced, with the number of regular train services reaching 119, effectively serving exports of photovoltaic modules, white goods, hardware components, and other commodities. At the same time, efforts are being made to improve the efficiency of transportation organization, promote the increase in transport volume through the sea-rail intermodal transportation route.
