Acting attorney general: White House Correspondents Dinner shooter may have targeted Trump
Acting U.S. Attorney General Branch said on the 26th that a search warrant had been executed against the suspect of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner shooting, and that the suspect's target was government officials, possibly including U.S. President Trump. Branch said in an interview with NBC News that day that the suspect had purchased two guns in the past few years and had taken a train from Los Angeles through Chicago to Washington before the incident. The suspect was staying at the hotel where the dinner was held, and it is believed that he acted alone. According to U.S. media reports, the suspect's name is Cole Allen, 31 years old, from California.
