The China National Space Administration has released the latest research results on the lunar samples collected by the Chang'e-5 mission. Two new minerals have been discovered from the lunar samples collected by Chang'e-5. Magnesian Chang'eite, found in the lunar basaltic breccia, is a mineral that appears in columnar crystals with particle sizes ranging from 2 to 30 micrometers, approximately one-thirtieth to one-third the diameter of a human hair. Experts told reporters that Magnesian Chang'eite and previously discovered Chang'eite are both calcium rare earth phosphate minerals, but Magnesian Chang'eite is richer in magnesium and rare earth elements. In addition to Magnesian Chang'eite, researchers have also discovered a new mineral named Cerian Chang'eite in the Chang'e-5 lunar samples. So far, China has discovered three new minerals from the Chang'e-5 lunar samples.
