The Department of Justice of the United States confirmed on April 23rd local time that Army Sergeant Ganon Keane Van Dyke, who was involved in forcibly controlling and transferring Venezuelan President Maduro, has been charged for allegedly making over $400,000 in profits by using this information to place bets. It is reported that in the weeks leading up to January 3rd, Van Dyke used sensitive classified information to bet on the prediction market Polymarket that the US military would enter Venezuela and Maduro would step down. On January 3rd, Van Dyke also posted photos of sensitive information on his online account. A grand jury at the Manhattan federal court has charged the 38-year-old Van Dyke with offenses including illegally using classified government information for personal gain, stealing non-public government information, commodity fraud, telecommunications fraud, and engaging in illegal currency transactions. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission also filed a civil lawsuit against Van Dyke.
