CATL announced that sodium-ion batteries will be mass-produced in the fourth quarter of this year. The cost of sodium-ion batteries is much lower, with the price of sodium carbonate only a fraction of that of lithium carbonate, and the supply is abundant and stable. They do not rely on lithium/cobalt, with the cathode not containing lithium and cobalt, completely bypassing two major strategic resource bottlenecks. They have a wide temperature range and are safe to use, with a working temperature of -50C to +80C, and their performance in low temperatures far exceeds that of lithium batteries. The production lines are compatible and can reuse existing lithium battery production equipment, with extremely low switching costs. In April 2026, China's global market share of power batteries exceeded 70% for the first time, and CATL's A+H shares' total market value exceeded 2 trillion yuan, making it the first technology company in China with a market value exceeding 2 trillion yuan.
