UN agencies: extreme heat threatens the livelihoods, health, and productivity of over 1 billion people.
On the 22nd local time, the World Meteorological Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations jointly released a report stating that extreme high temperatures threaten the livelihoods, health, and labor productivity of over 1 billion people. Farmers and agricultural food systems are most affected. The report, titled "Extreme Heat and Agriculture," analyzes that in the past half century, the frequency, intensity, and duration of extreme high temperature events have sharply increased, and the risks faced by the agricultural food system and ecosystems in the future will soar. The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Petteri Taalas, stated: "Extreme heat is increasingly becoming the primary determinant of operating conditions for agricultural food systems."
