Democratic Senator criticized Walsh for failing to demonstrate independence as a nominee for chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized Federal Reserve Chair nominee Kevin Wash for his performance during the confirmation hearing, stating that he failed to demonstrate the courage and independence necessary to stand up to President Donald Trump when needed. "Kevin Wash's job is to show that he has the courage, independence, and ability to say 'no' to Donald Trump," the Democratic senator from Massachusetts said to the media. "He refused to answer any questions that might in any way contradict President Trump." Warren is a member of the Senate Banking Committee. She questioned Wash during the hearing about whether Trump lost the 2020 presidential election and asked him to list one economic issue on which he disagreed with the president. Wash avoided these questions. However, Wash did tell the committee that although Trump had repeatedly called for rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, he had never asked Wash to make any specific rate decisions.
