On April 21st local time, the German automotive management center (CAM) released the "2026 Automotive Innovation Report", with Chinese manufacturer BYD scoring 157 points to top the global automotive industry innovation rankings for the first time, surpassing last year's champion Volkswagen (143 points). Mercedes-Benz ranked third with 134 points. Xiaopeng Motors (128 points), BMW, and Geely Group closely followed in fourth to sixth place. Renault, Toyota, GM, and Hyundai Motors also made it to the top ten. This marks the first time that a Chinese automaker has taken the top spot since the launch of the "Automotive Innovation Research" project in 2005 (CCTV News).
