The global energy landscape reached a milestone of a new era in 2025. According to the flagship report "Global Electricity Review" released by the global energy think tank Ember on April 21, the global clean electricity increment in 2025 fully covered the growth in electricity demand, successfully curbing the increase in fossil fuel electricity generation. More significantly, renewable energy's share in the global electricity structure surpassed coal for the first time in over a century. The report shows that the record increase in solar power was the core driver of this transformation. In 2025, global solar power generation surged by 636 terawatt hours, a 30% increase compared to the previous year, marking the fastest growth in nearly eight years. China played a decisive leadership role in this historic leap in global energy. According to the report's data analysis, in 2025, China's solar and wind power generation reached 2310 terawatt hours, doubling from three years ago and meeting 94% of the country's new electricity demand. China not only contributed 58% of the world's new solar power installed capacity and 72% of wind power installed capacity, but its new solar power output exceeded the total annual electricity generation of the United Kingdom.
