According to Al Jazeera reports, U.S. President Trump is trying to show optimism and believes that the ongoing negotiations still have the potential to make a breakthrough. However, this statement is increasingly being questioned, especially after Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz again after briefly reopening it. Sinan Azodi, director of Middle East Studies at George Washington University, expressed doubts about Trump's information and warned that the situation on the ground is completely different. "I am not sure if I can believe what President Trump claims is true. The president likes to make a lot of statements that are not necessarily accurate. For example, when he said that the Iranians would give up their enriched uranium...the Iranians 100% denied that." Azodi believes that Iran's re-blocking of the strait is in response to the U.S.'s "double blockade," and that Iranians understand that the Strait of Hormuz is their "biggest bargaining chip."
