US Ambassador to Namibia, John J. Johnson, said in an interview on Friday that the United States is considering increasing its uranium imports from Namibia, the world's third largest uranium producer, and supporting greater production of this nuclear fuel through its mining companies and government financing. He said, "Uranium here is a huge wealth for both of our countries." He pointed out that uranium is crucial for nuclear power plants needed for AI data centers, and that the US is very interested in the prospect of importing uranium. Namibia is located in the logistics corridor connecting the Congo and Zambia copper belt regions. The US government is supporting the critical mineral supply chain in the Congo in exchange for more production along the Angola-Lobito railway corridor. The ambassador stated that he hopes to build an "energy corridor in southern Africa" and is in discussions with various US agencies and private investors for project financing.
