Ministry of National Defense: Urges Japan to completely sever ties with militarism.
On the afternoon of April 17th, Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, released a statement on recent military-related issues.
Reporter: According to reports, the Japanese House of Councilors passed the budget for the fiscal year 2026, with defense spending exceeding 9 trillion yen, reaching a historical high. The Japanese government plans to officially amend the "Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment" this month, allowing for the export of lethal weapons. What is your comment on this?
Colonel Zhang Xiaogang: Various signs indicate that right-wing forces in Japan are accelerating the shift of security policies towards offensive expansion. Their actions seriously violate the provisions of international legal documents such as the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and Japan's Instrument of Surrender, as well as the Japanese constitution and existing domestic norms, posing a serious threat to the post-war international order and regional peace and stability.
History serves as a warning. Japanese militarism once brought great disasters to the region and the world, but it has not been truly settled after the war. Now, the Japanese side has completely removed its disguise and accelerated its "re-militarization," which is deeply concerning and condemnable. We urge Japan to stop its acts of regression and completely cut ties with militarism, otherwise it will only lose credibility with neighboring Asian countries and the international community.
