According to data from shipping analysis agency Lloyd's List Intelligence, in recent days, most of the cargo ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz have been using the route designated by Iran for controlling the waterway. The shipping data company reported that out of 27 large commercial ships tracked crossing the strait since April 13, approximately 15 ships have used the route required by Iran, which closely follows the Iranian coastline. The Iranian government notified shipowners to use this route in early April and announced plans to collect a transit fee. Data shows that no ships have used the mainstream non-Iranian route. The remaining ships are shuttling to and from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas located near the strait. The data also indicates that 81% of the ships crossing the strait since April have some connection to Iran through ship ownership, flag, calling at an Iranian port, or other affiliations. These statistics only cover the transit of large cargo ships with a tonnage exceeding 10,000 tons.
