The 5-year survival rate of cancer in Shanghai is 65.2%.
In recent years, Shanghai has continuously built a dense network for cancer prevention and treatment, promoting early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer to improve the quality of life for patients. The core indicators for cancer prevention and treatment in the city have steadily improved, with an overall 5-year survival rate of 65.2%, leading domestically. On the occasion of the "32nd National Cancer Prevention and Control Week" and "China's Anti-Cancer Day," the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association, in collaboration with Fudan University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, released the "Recommendations for Common Malignant Tumor Screening and Prevention for Residents" yesterday. The updated recommendations focus on screening for colorectal cancer and prostate cancer, and include new "dietary nutrition advice to reduce the risk of cancer." The 2026 version of the recommendations states that while there is no absolute food or combination of foods that can effectively prevent cancer, and avoiding certain foods will not eliminate the risk of cancer, choosing healthy foods is still a powerful weapon for cancer prevention. The recommendations suggest: predominantly plant-based foods should make up over two-thirds of daily diet; choose whole grains over refined foods; make wise choices regarding meat consumption, limit red meat intake, avoid processed meats; strictly limit alcohol consumption, preferably abstain from drinking alcohol; control smoking and sugar intake, reduce high-salt, high-added-sugar foods, etc.
