Edward Yau: The Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Institute will be launched in the second half of the year to promote the transformation of artificial intelligence technology.
On April 14th, the 2026 International Academicians Hong Kong Forum, jointly organized by the International Alliance of Academicians and the Hong Kong Overseas Scholars Association, was held in Hong Kong. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, delivered a speech through a video, mentioning that the SAR government is actively implementing the national "AI+" action, and will launch the Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute in the second half of this year to promote the transformation of artificial intelligence technology for industries such as healthcare, law, and finance. At the same time, the government continues to promote the development of generative artificial intelligence, STEAM education, and clinical trials, including the establishment of the Greater Bay Area Clinical Trial Collaboration Platform and related application centers to accelerate the transformation of cutting-edge research results, further consolidating Hong Kong's position as an international innovation and technology hub and a gathering place for international high-end talent.
