The Mayor of Shanghai meets with the Governor of Lower Saxony, Germany to promote the complementary advantages and resource sharing between the China International Import Expo and the Hannover Messe.
Today, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with the Governor of Lower Saxony, Germany, Olaf Lies. Gong Zheng said that as the two major world economies, China and Germany are good partners who progress hand in hand and achieve success together. Shanghai and Lower Saxony have close friendly exchanges, and Volkswagen Group, headquartered in the city of Wolfsburg in Lower Saxony, established SAIC Volkswagen in Shanghai through joint venture in 1984, creating China's first modern car production base, which has become a vivid example of Sino-German economic exchanges. Currently, Shanghai is accelerating the construction of a world-renowned socialist modern international metropolis and hopes to deepen cooperation in various fields with Lower Saxony, achieving higher levels of mutual benefit and win-win results. Warmly welcoming more Lower Saxony companies to participate in the Import Expo and increase investments in Shanghai, we also actively support Shanghai companies investing in and developing businesses in Lower Saxony, promoting cooperation in areas such as automobile manufacturing, high-end equipment, and artificial intelligence. At the same time, we hope to deepen cooperation in exhibitions and experiences, promoting complementarity and resource sharing between the Import Expo and Hanover Industrial Expo. We also look forward to enhancing cooperation in the fields of education and technology, and encouraging more people to travel to each other's cities to appreciate the beauty. Lies said that this is his ninth visit to Shanghai and the surrounding areas, and each time he can feel the rapid development here. Volkswagen and Shanghai have a successful cooperation history of over 40 years, initially bringing German experiences to China and now innovating together. We hope to jointly promote research and development and explore international markets together in the future. We also look forward to enhancing exchanges and cooperation in areas such as ports between the two regions, promoting exchanges between university students and faculty, allowing young people to understand each other and increase awareness of each other's cities and industries. Consul General of Germany in Shanghai, Holger Mahl, also attended the meeting.
