The World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit opens in Hong Kong.
This morning, the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The summit, which will last for two days, is themed "Smart Empowerment, Innovative Development - Building a Community of Common Destiny in Cyberspace together", focusing on innovation and technology in the Asia-Pacific region, breaking regional boundaries, and promoting a new level of global digital innovation and technology exchange. When delivering a speech, Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stated that the summit has brought together over 1,000 participants from about 50 countries and regions to seek cooperation opportunities and establish connections, fully demonstrating Hong Kong's unique position under the principle of "one country, two systems", highlighting Hong Kong's influence as an international innovation and technology center, and consolidating the deep integration of Hong Kong with national development strategies. Lam also mentioned that the recently established "Hong Kong AI Research Institute" will drive breakthroughs in AI upstream research and development, as well as the transformation and application of midstream and downstream achievements, with the ultimate goal of enabling everyone to have access to artificial intelligence.
