Benin holds presidential elections.
Benin held presidential elections on the 12th, with more than 7.89 million registered voters voting for a new president. There are two presidential candidates in this election, current Minister of Economy and Finance Romuald Wadagni nominated by the ruling camp, and Paul Omp of the moderate opposition party "Benin Emerging Shell Power". The National Independent Electoral Commission of Benin stated that a total of 17,462 polling stations were set up domestically and abroad for this election. Voting started at 7:00 am local time on the 12th and is expected to end at 4:00 pm. Preliminary counting results will be announced within 48 hours after the end of voting.
