Chairman of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand: Will announce increase in transparency of monetary policy decision-making.
Reserve Bank of New Zealand Governor Adrian Orr said that the central bank will soon announce measures to increase transparency in its monetary policy decision-making. Currently, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's Monetary Policy Committee determines the official cash rate either through consensus or by vote, but individual committee members' decision-making processes are not disclosed. When asked on Sunday whether she supports the disclosure of voting results, Orr said, "This is a decision made between the Monetary Policy Committee and the Finance Minister. We have gone through the relevant processes and are about to announce possible adjustments." Orr joined the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from the Swedish central bank in early December, and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand is considered one of the most transparent central banks globally. She has held press conferences after each rate decision and starting in 2027, the Monetary Policy Committee will make eight rate decisions per year, up from the current seven.
