Brazil and the United States signed a cooperation agreement to combat transnational organized crime.
Brazilian Minister of Finance Dario Durgan announced on the 10th that Brazil and the United States have officially signed a cooperation agreement to enhance collaboration in combating transnational organized crime. According to Durgan, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service will cooperate with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency to combat transnational crime. The two sides will exchange container information and other relevant data between the U.S. and Brazil, and through intelligence sharing and joint law enforcement, combat illegal arms and drug trafficking. Durgan stated that Brazil and the U.S. will also institutionalize real-time information sharing on illegal arms transport to enhance the ability to track illegal arms transport. Once the customs of the two countries seize sensitive items from each other, they will provide information on the type of sensitive items and their origin to the other party. It is reported that the Brazilian customs have seized more than 1,100 weapons and parts in the past 12 months, and in the first quarter of this year, they seized 1.5 tons of drugs from the United States.
