Amazon denies rumors of a new round of global layoffs.
Recently, there have been reports that Amazon will start a new round of layoffs in May, with an estimated 14,000 people expected to be laid off, mainly in core business departments, including the AWS cloud department, retail business, and human resources department, etc. Some teams in the China region may even be completely disbanded. However, on April 10th, Amazon told reporters that this news is not true. Earlier this year, Amazon had already conducted a large-scale layoff. On January 28th, Amazon announced a restructuring of the organization, confirming that about 16,000 job positions would be cut, marking the second round of large-scale layoffs following the cut of 14,000 positions in October 2025. Amazon's Senior Vice President Beth Galetti said that the move is to continue to "streamline management levels, strengthen accountability" and the company will continue to recruit and invest in strategic areas and functional departments.
