OpenAI executive Peter Hoeschele leaves the company.
According to informed sources, Peter Hoeschele, a high-ranking executive at OpenAI who helped launch the Interstellar Gateway data center project, has left the startup company. Hoeschele was an original member of the OpenAI Interstellar Gateway team, which aimed to assist OpenAI in building and operating its own data centers. However, the company abandoned this strategy last year due to financing difficulties and the challenges of the joint venture structure with SoftBank and Oracle. Subsequently, their strategy shifted towards primarily leasing compute resources from other providers. At the end of last year, OpenAI hired a new head of computing and infrastructure, former Intel Chief Technology and AI Officer Sachin Katti, who reports to OpenAI President and Co-founder Greg Brockman. Several executives who previously reported to Brockman, including Hoeschele, were reassigned under Katti. After the reorganization, Hoeschele became the leader of the "Industrial Computing Ecosystem and Partnerships". Katti could not be reached for comment at the moment.
