Three major international organizations are warning in unison: food prices are set to rise.
The World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations World Food Program warned on Wednesday that the sharp rise in oil, natural gas, and fertilizer prices triggered by the conflicts in the Middle East will inevitably lead to increases in food prices and exacerbate food security issues. The statement pointed out that the soaring fuel prices and the potential significant increase in food prices are particularly worrying in countries already facing financial constraints and high levels of debt burden, as these factors will limit their ability to protect vulnerable households.
