The three major telecom operators in South Korea will allow users to use basic data services after reaching their data limit.
The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT said on Thursday that South Korean mobile phone users will still be able to use basic data services even after they have used up their monthly data limit, although the speed will decrease. This measure is aimed at protecting their communication rights. Under an agreement reached with the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, the three major telecom operators in South Korea - SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus - will continue to provide basic data access services with speeds reduced to 400 kilobits per second to all users who have used up their high-speed data limit, in order to support users in using essential functions such as instant messaging applications. This new policy is expected to benefit 7.17 million users who currently do not have unlimited data plans, saving them up to 322.1 billion South Korean won annually.
