The Panamanian government emphasizes that the approval for First Quantum Minerals to remove stockpiled ore from a closed copper mine aims to manage environmental risks associated with long-term storage of ore, particularly the potential threat of acid rock drainage. The project is expected to create approximately 700 direct jobs and stimulate indirect employment in areas such as logistics and services. Sales revenue from the concentrate is expected to offset some of the mine site maintenance costs by 2026.
