The United Nations Security Council failed to pass a resolution. The resolution "strongly encourages countries intending to use the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping to coordinate efforts in proportionate and defensive actions to help ensure the safety and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz". The resolution proposes that such actions may include "escorting merchant vessels and commercial ships" and also supports efforts to "prevent any attempts to close, obstruct, or otherwise interfere with international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz".
