Today, the national railway is expected to transport 20.8 million passengers, with 1,369 additional passenger trains scheduled to be put into service. On the highways, there is increased traffic pressure on the return journey in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as the Yangtze River Delta region. The toll exemption for small vehicles with seven seats or less on the national highways ends at 24:00 today. Civil aviation is expected to transport 1.94 million passengers today, while waterway passenger traffic is forecasted to exceed 1.11 million. The Ministry of Transportation stated that this year, many primary and secondary schools in various parts of the country have synchronized spring break with the Qingming holiday, leading to a surge in parent-child trips and family travel, creating a full chain of consumption scenarios covering transportation services, cultural tourism accommodation, catering, retail, and energy supply. The latest data shows that during the Qingming holiday, the total interregional population flow is expected to reach 840 million people, with an average of 280 million people per day, an increase of about 6% compared to the previous year. The number of people on the first day of the holiday exceeded 300 million, showing a 4.5% increase from the same period last year. In particular, the passenger volumes on railways and highways on the first day both exceeded historical highs for the same period.
