Congo declares the end of the smallpox epidemic.
The government of the Republic of the Congo announced on the 2nd that the country's monkeypox epidemic has ended and no longer constitutes a domestic public health emergency. The Minister of Health of the Congo, Kanba, stated in the capital Kinshasa that this epidemic has been controlled thanks to the experience accumulated in response to previous epidemics such as Ebola and a more unified prevention and control coordination mechanism. He emphasized that although the epidemic has ended, the virus still exists, and efforts will continue to be made to monitor and prevent the recurrence of the epidemic in the future.
