The cholera epidemic in Burundi rebounds with 18 new cases reported in a single day.
Burundi Minister of Public Health, Thadde Ndikumana, stated on the 2nd that recently there has been a resurgence of cholera in Burundi, with 18 new cases reported on the 1st. Ndikumana said at a press conference in Bujumbura, the economic capital of Burundi, that a total of 34 patients have been admitted to the two cholera treatment centers nationwide. The fight against the cholera epidemic has imposed a heavy financial burden on the Burundian government, with expenditures in the first quarter of this year amounting to approximately 3 billion Burundian francs. To prevent and control the cholera epidemic, the government will impose fines on those who violate public health and environmental sanitation regulations starting on April 6th.
