A Defense Department official confirmed the news to Defense News Weekly website, but refused to provide more information. The Army Chief of Staff is the highest military officer in the US Army, with a usual term of four years. George began serving as Army Chief of Staff in 2023, which means he was supposed to serve until 2027.
