Industry insiders said on Wednesday that, due to the surge in global oil prices, Korean airlines have increased their fuel surcharges for April by up to three times compared to March. Korean Air has raised the fuel surcharge for international one-way flights in April to between 42,000 Korean won and 303,000 Korean won, up from 13,500 Korean won to 99,000 Korean won in March. On long-haul routes to New York, Chicago, Washington, and Toronto, the surcharge has increased by 3.1 times, reaching 303,000 Korean won. Asiana Airlines has raised its fuel surcharge for April from 14,600 to 78,600 Korean won in March to 43,900 to 251,900 Korean won. Low-cost airlines that charge fuel surcharges in US dollars have also significantly increased their fees, with Jeju Air raising its fuel surcharge from $9 to $22 in March to $29 to $68.
