State Council Taiwan Affairs Office: The Democratic Progressive Party authorities should be responsible to the people for food safety issues.
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter asked: Recently, the head of Taiwan's executive branch, Su Tseng-chang, said that imported pork from the mainland must never be fed with ractopamine. What is the spokesperson's comment on this? Spokesperson Zhang Han said, "We adhere to the principle of people first, life first in food safety. We have the strictest food safety standards on the issue of ractopamine and strictly prohibit the import of any pork containing ractopamine to effectively protect the safety and health of the people. The Democratic Progressive Party authorities, for the sake of their own interests, are willing to sacrifice the safety and health of Taiwanese compatriots to please the United States. They go against the will of the Taiwan people by insisting on importing American pork containing ractopamine, leading to public anger and opposition within the island. Recent incidents such as the American pork washing scandal and counties banning ractopamine from entering school meal services demonstrate that the DPP authorities' actions are against the people's wishes and they should be held accountable to the public.
