Korean Air will enter emergency management mode in April due to the increase in oil prices caused by the Iran conflict.
Sina Finance News March 31st, informed sources revealed on Tuesday that due to the increase in oil prices caused by the Middle East war and the aggravation of cost pressures, Korean Air will enter emergency management mode starting from April. The company stated in an internal memo reviewed by the media that if oil prices remain high, the annual business goals are expected to be significantly impacted, and emergency operation systems will be launched starting from April. The memo also stated that the airline plans to implement measures in stages according to the level of oil prices, and strengthen cost efficiency across the company to offset the soaring fuel costs. According to local media reports, due to the rise in fuel costs, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air have also entered emergency management mode this month, highlighting the broader pressures facing the Korean aviation industry. Korean Air expects fuel costs to rise to about 450 cents per gallon in April, far higher than the 220 cents per gallon cited in its business plan, leading to a sharp increase in monthly cost burdens. According to the Korean Air official website, the fuel surcharges for international flights departing from South Korea will be significantly increased starting from April. The surcharges on flights from Incheon to New York and Incheon to Chicago will increase by more than 200%, while the surcharges on flights from Incheon to London and Incheon to Paris will approach 250%.
