Japanese silicon wafer manufacturer SUMCO adjusts its expansion plan and temporarily postpones the construction of a new factory.
Sina Finance reported on March 30th that Japan's leading silicon wafer manufacturer, SUMCO, recently announced an adjustment to its production capacity expansion plan. It has postponed new factory projects and will instead focus on upgrading existing plant sites and researching advanced process technologies. It is understood that after this adjustment, the subsidy amount received from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry by SUMCO has been reduced from the originally planned 75 billion yen to 19.3 billion yen. The company stated that it will concentrate on the technical transformation and capacity optimization of its existing factories in Imari City, Saga Prefecture, and other locations, and will prioritize the research and development of silicon wafer technology compatible with cutting-edge chip processes.
