Japanese company SUMCO, one of the world's major silicon wafer manufacturers, recently announced an adjustment to its capacity expansion plan, postponing the construction of a new factory project and focusing resources on the upgrading of existing factory sites and the R&D of advanced manufacturing technology. It is reported that after this adjustment, the amount of subsidies obtained from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry has been reduced from the originally planned 75 billion yen to 19.3 billion yen. The company stated that its development focus will be on the technical transformation and capacity optimization of existing factories in locations such as Imari City, Saga Prefecture, prioritizing the advancement of silicon wafer technology to adapt to cutting-edge chip manufacturing processes and increase production capacity.
