National pork prices fall below 5 yuan, hitting a historic low.
The price of pork in our country continues to fall, although it is more affordable for consumers to purchase pork, many pig farmers are suffering heavy losses, facing great pressure. According to the latest monitoring data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in the third week of March, pork prices in all 30 monitored provinces in the country fell, with an average price of 11.05 yuan per kilogram, a 28% decrease compared to the same period last year. This price is at a new low since June 2018. Experts believe that in the short term, pork prices will remain at a low level with fluctuations. They suggest that pig farmers should focus on disease prevention and cost management, while on one hand, they should sell their pigs in a timely manner to avoid blindly pushing back on production and second-stage fattening, and on the other hand, optimize breeding efficiency to avoid blindly expanding production to gamble on market conditions and prevent potential market risks in the second half of the year. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is intensifying the release of market warning information, guiding orderly pig slaughter, accelerating the elimination of low-yielding sows and weak piglets, adapting and adjusting pig production capacity in order to promote supply and demand balance.
