According to the Xinjiang Water Resources Department, in 2025, the groundwater extraction in Xinjiang was 11.1 billion cubic meters, a decrease of 750 million cubic meters compared to the previous year. The groundwater level rose by 0.41 meters compared to the previous year, and the amplitude of water level change tended to stabilize, with a significant reduction in severely declining areas. For the first time, the management of groundwater over-extraction achieved a "stop and rebound" effect. It is worth noting that in 2025, the groundwater extraction in key areas such as the northern and southern foothills of Tianshan Mountains and the Turpan Basin in Xinjiang decreased by 430 million cubic meters compared to the previous year, with the groundwater level increasing by 0.32 meters year-on-year. Preliminary statistics show that in 2025, the total water supply in Xinjiang was 62.55 billion cubic meters, which was basically the same as the previous year. The total storage capacity of water reservoirs in Xinjiang was 14.35 billion cubic meters.
