According to a report from The New York Times, data released by the University of Michigan on the 27th showed that due to rising fuel prices and financial market volatility, the U.S. consumer confidence index fell by 6% in March compared to the previous month, dropping to the lowest level since December 2025. The report stated that both the current economic conditions index and consumer expectations index in the United States declined on a month-on-month basis. The report said that American consumers' expectations for fuel prices in the next year have soared by about five times, reaching a new high since June 2022; while expectations for personal financial conditions in the next year have decreased by 10%. The report also stated that expectations for the short-term economic outlook in the United States have plummeted by 14%, with around 61% of consumers expecting an increase in unemployment in the next year. The report introduced that the survey was conducted by about two-thirds of Americans after the United States launched a military action against Iran, and the escalating conflict has worsened the situation.
