According to three sources who attended the G7 foreign ministers' meeting on Friday, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell asked US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when the US would take a tough stance against Russia, sparking a strong rebuttal from Pompeo. The sources revealed that the EU hawk and former Estonian Prime Minister criticized the US for not putting more pressure on Moscow. Borrell asked, "It's been a year and Russia has not taken any action. When will your patience run out?" Pompeo appeared visibly annoyed. "We are doing our utmost to end the war. If you think you can do better, then go ahead. We will walk away," he retorted, raising his voice. Pompeo stated that the US is trying to engage in dialogue with both sides, but only provides weapons, intelligence, and other support to one side, which is Ukraine.
