Tropical cyclone "Narelle" has caused serious damage to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in Western Australia, forcing major export facilities to shut down. As the storm moved along the coast, its intensity increased, leading to decreased production at several large factories that account for a significant portion of global LNG supply. Chevron confirmed that its Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities on Barrow Island have stopped production due to the severe weather and safety regulations. This shutdown has also affected Woodside Petroleum's upstream gas supply at their North West Shelf facility, further exacerbating the impact on Australia's LNG export chain. These facilities collectively represent around 8% of global LNG supply, making this shutdown have a significant impact on the international energy market. With Qatar's previous shutdown and increased geopolitical risks in the Middle East, the global LNG market was already under pressure.
