On Thursday, a federal judge in the United States halted the Trump administration's designation of Anthropic as a supply chain risk company. The judge ruled that the government's classification of this artificial intelligence company as a security threat and its ban on government departments using its models violated freedom of speech. Judge Rita F. Lin of the Northern District of California Federal Court ordered the Trump administration to stop implementing the president's directive to federal agencies to stop using Anthropic technology, and stop the designation of the company as a national security supply chain risk enterprise. She also requested the government to submit a report by April 6 detailing its compliance with the ruling. This ruling marks an initial victory for Anthropic in its legal battle with the Pentagon. The lawsuit stemmed from a dispute over the restrictions imposed by the company on the use of its AI tools in military scenarios.
