On March 26th, the mobilization ceremony for the construction of the second Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Crossing was held in Nantong, Jiangsu. As a strategic project to promote the higher quality of integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta, the second Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Crossing project starts at the Shenyang Expressway and the Shanghai-Shanxi Expressway interchange at Xiaohai, spans across the Yangtze River to the south, and connects to National Highway 204, with a total length of 42.951 kilometers. The project is located between the existing Suzhou-Nantong Bridge and the Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Bridge, approximately 20 kilometers away from each bridge. The entire route will be built to highway standards, with the river crossing and approach bridges having dual eight-lane, bidirectional configurations with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The north and south connections will each have dual six-lane configurations with a design speed of 100-120 kilometers per hour. Once completed, this project will work together with the Suzhou-Nantong, Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong, Zhangjinggao, Haitai, and other river crossings to significantly alleviate traffic pressure on existing bridges. It will be of great significance in improving the layout of the Yangtze River mainline passage, promoting the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and the urban homogenization of the metropolitan area.
