The figures released by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade on March 25th show that the country's diesel prices have more than doubled compared to before the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict at the end of February, rising from 19270 Vietnamese dong per liter to 39660 Vietnamese dong per liter. In addition, the price of Vietnam's 95 octane gasoline has risen by 68% compared to the previous month, from 20150 Vietnamese dong per liter to 33840 Vietnamese dong per liter. Many people complain that they can't afford to refuel, so they can only travel by bicycle. Ruan Wenzhi, a 54-year-old vendor, told Agence France-Presse that he hasn't driven his car for two weeks. "The diesel price is so outrageous that I want to sell my truck, but no one is buying because no one can afford it."
