On Tuesday, Musk said on the social platform X that his brain-machine interface company Neuralink is working on restoring the ability to speak for people who have lost it. Previously, the company had demonstrated in a video a brain implant device that can translate the thoughts of ALS patients into audible speech, allowing users to communicate without speaking. The implant captures neural activity related to speech and converts it into text, which is then read out loud by a computer program. This test is part of Neuralink's ongoing clinical trials for speech, which are still in the experimental stage. The company is focused on improving speed and accuracy.
