On the morning of March 25th, with the roar of machines and excavation of earth, construction of the new airport in Guangzhou began in Foshan. This marks the start of building a modern international aviation hub that will serve the west bank of the Pearl River, radiate to western Guangdong, and empower the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. According to reporters on site, the new airport is a 4E level international airport with a planned land area of 27 square kilometers, progressing in phases: the current phase will have a standard construction for an annual passenger throughput of 30 million people and a cargo throughput of 500,000 tons, comparable in scale to provincial capital airports such as Tianhe in Wuhan and Huanghua in Changsha; the long-term plan includes an annual throughput of 80 million passengers and 2.6 million tons of cargo, equivalent to the current Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou, with space reserved for upgrading to a 4F level airport. In this phase, a T1 terminal building with an area of 260,000 square meters and a total of 94 parking spaces, as well as two parallel runways, one in the west and one in the east, each with a length of 3,600 meters, will be constructed.
