The country's first 8-inch production line for silicon-based photonic chips has started construction in Suzhou.

According to Xinhua Daily, on March 24th, Suzhou Xingyue Photonics Technology Co., Ltd.'s silicon photonics platform started construction in Suzhou High-tech Zone, with the aim of being operational by the end of this year. This is the country's first 8-inch production line specializing in silicon-based photonics chips. The total investment for the first phase of the project is 1.2 billion RMB, establishing an 8-inch 90-nanometer process production line to meet the market demand for 1.6T and 3.2T silicon photonics modules, and to build an independent and controllable silicon-based optoelectronic integrated chip manufacturing ecosystem.
