Recently, due to the annual release of water from the Three Gorges Reservoir, the water levels in the Three Gorges reservoir area have been continuously declining. In order to ensure the safety of water transportation, the maritime department in Fengdu, Chongqing has strengthened safety supervision to ensure safe navigation for vessels during the decline period. Reporters observed in the Fengdu section of the Yangtze River in Chongqing that as the water levels decline, some navigational channels in the Three Gorges reservoir area have narrowed and shallow shoals and hidden reefs have become exposed. The maritime department has increased the frequency and coverage of patrols, conducting inspections on vessels to check their draft, mooring conditions, crew on duty, and the availability of firefighting and life-saving equipment.
