SK Hynix plans to invest 1.19 trillion Korean won (approximately 7.9 billion US dollars) to purchase top-of-the-line Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) chip manufacturing equipment from ASML to further increase their investment in the next generation storage field to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence. The order is valid until 2027 and is considered the largest in its class, highlighting the urgency for chip manufacturers to acquire EUV equipment necessary for large-scale production of the world's most advanced semiconductors. This decision reflects the increasingly competitive nature between SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics in providing the latest storage technology. EUV machines, each costing hundreds of millions of dollars, are crucial for advanced DRAM and HBM. ASML's other major customers include Samsung and TSMC.
