Central Stability Team closed two temporary bases, facilities transferred to local authorities in Central Africa.
The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) recently announced the closure of its two temporary bases in the Central African Republic, and the transfer of the base infrastructure to the Central African national authorities. The two sides have signed a formal agreement to ensure the effective use of the facilities by the security forces and to guarantee the continuity of operations. MINUSCA stated that the closure of the bases reflects a relative improvement in the local security situation, with peacekeeping responsibilities gradually being transferred to the Central African authorities. It emphasized that this action is not a complete withdrawal, and that key strategic axes will continue to be secured through remote patrols. Established in 2014, MINUSCA currently deploys over 17,000 peacekeeping personnel, with Rwanda being one of the largest troop-contributing countries, sending nearly 2,400 personnel.
