On March 22-23, the China Development High-Level Forum 2026 Annual Meeting was held in Beijing. At the thematic seminar on global green low-carbon transformation and sustainable development, Mohammad Abunayyan, founder and chairman of Saudi International Power and Water Company, stated that this year, Saudi Arabia's power generation from green energy will reach 25%. "We are the largest oil-producing country in the world, and at the same time, we have the largest oil reserves globally. Our green transformation is inseparable from the ecosystem jointly built with China," Abunayyan said. ACWA is a global leader in renewable energy and seawater desalination development and operation, and in recent years, it has deepened cooperation with China, implementing several important projects. "Although we are facing a complex situation of war, today Saudi Arabia still has 38 airports open, and residents can go to work and school as usual," Abunayyan said, looking ahead to the future. He mentioned that water will become a very important global resource. ACWA is sharing seawater desalination technology with China and has brought seawater desalination projects to China for the first time. Additionally, he believes that green hydrogen is a technology for the future. "This year, we expect to produce 1.2 million tons of green ammonia. Thanks to China for cooperating with us on this project," Abunayyan said. He believes that in the future, people will still rely on fossil fuels, which will not change. However, there is a need for a more diverse energy mix, and to consider how the combination of future energy sources can benefit people, businesses, industries, and the economy. "Without China, the transition to green energy cannot be achieved, and I am very much looking forward to jointly creating a vision for green transformation in the future."
